Srinagar, Nov 06 (KNO): The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA), a prominent trade body representing business interests in the Valley, has strongly urged the government to increase the public distribution system (PDS) ration quota, emphasising the critical importance of addressing this fundamental public necessity. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), KTA President Aijaz Shahdhar highlighted the pressing nature of this long-standing demand. "The enhancement of ration quota remains one of the most crucial pending issues affecting daily lives in Kashmir. Given the essential nature of this basic necessity, the government must take immediate steps to announce an enhanced ration quota that adequately meets the needs of our population," Shahdhar stated. KTA emphasised that Kashmir's unique socio-economic fabric has created a significant dependence on the government ration distribution system. This reliance has been further intensified by various factors including seasonal challenges, market fluctuations, and economic considerations. "The current allocation needs to be revisited considering the growing population and increased household requirements. A substantial portion of Kashmir's population depends on government rations, making this enhancement not just a demand but a necessity," the KTA President added. The Alliance pointed out that an enhanced ration quota would not only ensure food security but also help stabilize local markets and provide economic relief to families across the region. The KTA expressed optimism about the government's response and reiterated its commitment to advocating for public welfare—(KNO)
